3 Days in Paris and Johnny Depp Sightings: Post #5 from London

On Monday we were FINALLY able to move into the newly renovated BYU London Centre! It could not possibly be any more beautiful. It's located on Notting Hill in a huge Victorian style townhouse. I'll take some pictures to post on my blog soon, but it is incredible. On Tuesday morning, we were awakened by a chorus of alarms going off  at 3:30 a.m. so that we could leave to catch our 5:40 a.m. train to Paris. We did so much in the 3 days in Paris that I'll just hit some of the highlights.

1. Sacre Couer. The Sacre Couer is a BEAUTIFUL church in Paris that is located up on a hill. You can hike up to it and take in not only the beautiful church but the incredible view of Paris. Funny story though, at all of the major tourist attractions in Paris you will find scammers trying to sell you things. As we were hiking up the hill, this man was trying to sell us friendship bracelets. I shook my head and tried to keep walking, but he grabbed my arm and tried to put one on me loudly claiming, "ITS FOR THE CHURCH!" I yanked my arm away and power walked as fast as I could up the hill!

                                                             This view though.
2. Love Lock Bridge. The main reason I wanted to see the Love Lock Bridge which is over the Seine River was because my favorite T.V. show, Parks and Rec, featured it in an episode. The view of the river from the bridge was incredible. Paris is beautiful.

3. CREPES. Now that I've eaten crepes in France, the home of the crepe, I'll probably never be able to eat them ever again, because it just won't be the same. It's especially wonderful to watch your crepe be made right in front of you. I mean you just can't deny how delicious this looks right?
4 Last but not least, I can't forget the Eiffel Tower! I totally had a moment on our first day in Paris where I turned around and saw the Eiffel Tower in the distance and it really hit me that I was in Paris! We went to see it up close the next day, and then hiked up to a church across the street to take even more pictures and take in another amazing view of Paris! It's indescribable how amazing it is to stand in front of something that you've just seen in pictures all of your life!

Even though I had a wonderful time in Paris, when we got off the train and got onto the tube to head back to the London Centre, we all agreed that it was good to be home!

This weekend was BEAUTIFUL all weekend, so we spent many hours outside at markets an in the gorgeous Hyde Park! I also tried Nando's for the first time, mostly to make Amy and Jenn jealous, but the food was delicious and it's pretty dangerous for me that there's one just down the street from the Centre. I also got to teach Relief Society today in my new ward! The members have made us feel so welcome and one of them even calls us "Brigham's Angels." He's a crack up. It's so crazy but fun being in my cousin Matthew's ward. So this week is going to be amazing. Tomorrow after classes, we are going to rent bikes and explore Hyde Park. On Tuesday after classes, we're going to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. On Wednesday we're spending the day touring Bath, and on Thursday night Sarah and I are going to see Wicked at the West End! I ALMOST FORGOT WE SAW JOHNNY DEPP. Okay so what happened was on Saturday afternoon, we were sitting in the kitchen talking and a guy walked by the window that looked EXACTLY like Johnny Depp. We were so sure it was him, but we were too in shock to take a picture. We were talking to one of our professors later that night about it and he said that Johnny Depp has a property in our area and that he's living here in London right now. We are on constant surveillance and we're DETERMINED to see him again and get a picture this time!

A Birthday Shoutout to my Favorite Missionary Cousin!

What better way to return from my unintentional blogging hiatus, than to write a birthday blog in honor of my favorite cousin? Whenever I describe Matthew to my friends I refer to him as, "my cousin who's kind of more like my brother." In honor of his birthday, this weekend I was reading through some of our e-mails that we've written to each other while he's been on his mission and selected my top 10 favorite quotes that encapsulate ten of my favorite things about Matthew. 1. He will forever be a matchmaker.  "So a guy in my ward sent you a message on Facebook. He was going to say that he's single and looking for a girl to take to the temple. I said that would probably be a little strange." Side note: He sent it to the wrong Sarah Freeman, so I never got it.  2. He appreciates good television.  "So I've been e-mailing Michael Scott. I thought you would appreciate that he's been working in the mission office. Please think about th...

Shipps on a Ship Part 1

It truly feels like just yesterday my grandparents gathered our family in the living room of our rented beach house and told us that they were taking us on a Disney Cruise. In reality, it was a year and a half ago and at the time it seemed like November 2014 would never come. It still almost felt like a dream even as we boarded our plane to Orlando last Saturday after MUCH airport turmoil, i.e. Michael forgetting his carry on at security, Jonathan getting a bloody nose, and me almost losing my debit card. Against all odds, the Shipp cousins made it to Orlando in one piece. I always get teary-eyed when I see my family after a few months away, and this time was no exception! Just as we were getting settled into our hotel room, we found out that our toilet was broken, so we had to move rooms! Once we were finally settled, Uncle Dave was kind enough to take as many cousins as could pile into his van for a McDonald's run. We spent Sunday in Downtown Disney, visiti...

Life Changes and New Adventures

I thought that I had the next couple of years of my life all figured out. I am a prime example of a chronic over-thinker, and the queen of the pro/con list. I had carefully thought out every recent decision I had made. I was settled at the school where I had been working, I had a good apartment and ward, and I had just been accepted to a 2 year long Master's of Education program, which would fulfill one of my long term goals. Yet something still felt off. Despite the fact that I thought I had a good direction in my life, I felt confused and unsettled. It felt like I was trapped inside a box. I would walk in one direction, hit the wall of the box only to turn in another direction and hit another wall.          The problem was, I just could not figure out what it was that wasn't right. I started taking the long way driving home from work each day and praying about my concerns. It took a couple of weeks of this before seemingly o...
