A Surprise Visit Home!

After several months of planning/secret keeping I got to fly home on Tuesday and surprise Amy at her senior Pops Concert! Tuesday was a quite stressful day of traveling. My first flight got delayed half an hour, and I thought I only had 20 minutes to make my connecting flight, which ended up getting delayed an hour. I was freaking out that I would miss the concert, but thankfully I made it with plenty of time to spare! My dad was waiting at the airport with a sandwich from Potbelly's! Then we headed over to the high school! I passed one of Amy's friends in the hallway and asked where she was, and he told me she was in the auditorium with Mrs. Van Slyke and a couple of her friends. I walked in and she just screamed, "WHAT THE?" then ran up and hugged me. The look on her face was absolutely priceless. She was SO surprised! Then Mrs. Van Slyke goes, "Wait is that Sarah Freeman? You're not supposed to be here!" Then I waited out in the hallway while Amy went into the choir room to get Jenn. She told me she was begging Jenn to "come with her to the bathroom," but Jenn kept saying that she couldn't because she wasn't wearing shoes and her hair wasn't done yet. Typical Jenn. I guess Amy finally convinced her somehow, because she walked around the corner and saw me and then practically knocked me over giving me a hug! Then I went out into the lobby to see my mom and Abby! Surprises are the best. It was great.

The concert was absolutely incredible! Jenn just shines on stage. She was having so much fun up there and is just plain adorable! Amy was beyond incredible. I'm not usually super emotional, but her senior spotlight song made me bawl. It was literally flawless and I was just so proud of her! Her choirs were amazing and so fun to watch! All of her solos were just perfect. I just can't even put into words how happy I was that I got to sit there in the audience and support her the same way she has always supported me! I couldn't possibly have been any more proud of both of my sisters! After the girls got home from dinner after the concert, Mom, Amy, Jenn, and I sat in the living room talking and goofing around until 2 in the morning!

On Wednesday, Mom let Amy and Jenn play hooky from school. We went shopping at Target and then out to lunch at Chili's. I was supposed to head back to Provo the next day, but things took an interesting turn. I started having bad stomach pains that were gradually getting worse. My dad took me to urgent care, and after stabbing my arm with some needles and stuff, they decided I might have appendicitis, so they sent me to the ER. After more tests, the doctors at the ER who I became best friends with after spending several hours together decided that it thankfully wasn't appendicitis. They weren't very conclusive about what it actually was, but by the time we left the ER I was feeling much better. The doctors recommended that I wait until Friday to fly back to Utah, so I got an extra day at home! By a small miracle, we were able to change my flight at no extra cost! Everyone had to go back to school and work on Thursday, so I spent the day at home just taking it easy. When Amy and Jenn got home, Amy and I took Jenn to voice and we just talked and goofed off in the car. After everyone got home, we went and visited Amy at work and got some Sweet Frog! It was the perfect little vacation!

I am so grateful for my wonderful family! I'm so thankful that we're so close and have so much fun together! I'm so glad I was able to surprise my amazing sister and watch her incredible final choir performance!

My Journey to Self-Confidence

This is a picture of me almost exactly three years ago: And this is a picture of me now: Now, you might be thinking this is one of those stories that you see in Weight Watchers ads on T.V. endorsing a diet. I promise it's not. This journey was about so much more than a number on a scale. It was about working towards being able to recognize my divine nature as a daughter of God. I'll start at the beginning. When I started my freshman year at BYU, my self-confidence was at an all time low. I would try on about five outfits every morning, look in the mirror, and then immediately change. My low self-esteem was reflected in the way I talked to people, the way I dressed, and just the overall way that I carried myself. I compared myself to everyone else around me and was constantly tearing myself down. My lack of self-esteem seemed so obvious, yet it seemed like no one truly understood how I felt. I knew I needed to make some changes, but I just didn't know how. Af...

A Slight Transformation

So I'm sitting here procrastinating homework, the usual, I really need a spring break, but anyhow, I was looking through some pictures and I found this. This is a picture of my sisters and I last Christmas break (Dec 2011) And this is a picture of me and my sisters from this past Christmas break one year later (Dec 2012): A lot is the same between these two pictures. We're the same four sisters. Other than Abby and I swapping places we're standing in the exact same order. Both were taken at my grandparents' house in Virginia while I was on break from BYU. And these three girls are still my three dearest friends in the world. At the same time, a lot has changed. We've grown a little bit, both as people and in height (well except for me). Amy got accepted to BYU (YES!), Abby started middle school, Jenn's become a little singing star! I decided what to do with my life and began pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. The biggest change between these pict...

London Living

I've learned a few things in the two days since I left the U.S. First of all, flying internationally is AWESOME. Going through customs, not so awesome but I'll get there. You're greeted at your seat by a pillow and blanket, you get served Indian food for dinner, and there's tons of T.V. shows and movies to watch. I didn't sleep much, and thus was a bit disoriented when we landed at 7 am London time, while my body was on Virginia time where it was the middle of the night. I completely forgot that my dad had told me that before you go through passport control, there's a landing form you have to fill out. When my half asleep half awake self handed the border patrol officer my passport I was met with a very dirty glare as he angrily asked where my landing form was. He handed me one after I explained that I had forgotten to grab one, but not without a bit of eye rolling. I frantically filled it out and made it through customs in one piece after being questioned about...
