ROAD TRIP 2012!

I wrote this blog post forever ago and forgot to post it! Enjoy!  These past two weeks have been so crazy but so much fun! Two Saturdays ago after packing up pretty much everything I own, Mom, Dad, Amy, and I got up at 5 am and hit the road to cross the country! We drove all day on Saturday until we made it to our hotel near St. Louis! We slept in a little bit on Sunday morning and then drove the remaining three hours or so to get to Phil and Sue's house in Kansas! We spent the rest of the day Sunday catching up and enjoying a DELICIOUS dinner that Sue made! I also learned that I actually didn't forget everything that I learned freshman year in Geometry! Jensen had some questions about her homework and I was actually able to help her! We ended a fun day by watching the first half of The Hunger Games! On Monday the kids had school so we hung out with Sue! She took us to see the GORGEOUS Kansas City Temple that just opened a few months ago! It really is beautiful! We then met Phil for lunch! After lunch we went shopping at this super cool outlet mall called Legends! It was HUGE and had every store you could ever want! When we got back we had dinner and then finished the second half of The Hunger Games! After watching a few episodes of Friends, we went to bed! We were up at 5 am again Tuesday morning to finish the last leg of our trip to Utah! Our patience was tested when our air conditioning stopped working in Wyoming. We rolled down the windows and thankfully because we were on the highway we were able to stay nice and cool! Our hair had definitely seen better days though! After driving through nothing but corns and fields for hour after hour it was SO nice to see the beautiful Utah mountains! We got to Missy and Frank's house around 8 and ordered pizza for dinner! We went to bed early because we were all exhausted! Wednesday was Amy's birthday! We drove down to Provo so she could see BYU! While my family took a campus tour I went down to Liberty Square to see my apartment and one of my roommates Kaylee! Kaylee and I then met my family at the BYU Bookstore and did a little shopping! After buying some souvenirs, we went to Legends Grille for lunch! One of my favorite restaurants on campus! After walking around campus a little more we went up to Sundance! It is absolutely GORGEOUS there! Amy, Dad, and I took a ride on the ski lift! It takes you all the way to the top of the mountain and it was so beautiful! Amy wanted to go to the Training Tables for her birthday dinner. At the Training Table you call in your order on a phone that's at your table and it rings when your orders ready. Amy claims it was the best burger she's ever had. The rest of us just split some fries, because Missy had graciously made us Cafe Rio pork for dinner! It was SO delicious! On Thursday we spent the day in Temple Square! On our way we stopped at East High and Grandma Great's house!  We saw the temple of course, the conference center, the visitor's centers, and we went inside the Tabernacle while the organist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was rehearsing! He was incredible! We then had lunch at the Nauvoo Cafe which has the best sandwiches and soup in the WORLD. SO GOOD. We also made two trips to Deseret Book because as my mom says, "One trip just isn't enough." We then went and explored the new City Creek Mall which is GORGEOUS! The roof can open and close and since it was a beautiful day the roof was open and it was awesome! On Friday night Amy and I went with Serene and Rachel and their cousin Coral to In N Out! It was so much fun to see them again and catch up! Then on Friday I moved into my apartment! We had such a fun trip! I miss my family tons, but I am so happy to be back at BYU! Now for some pictures!

Until We Meet Again

On Friday, my Grandma Freeman passed away. She was almost 90 years old and lived a long, full life. She was kind, loving, a hard worker, and fiercely loyal. She taught elementary school, and I've always loved the fact that both of my grandmas were teachers, and good ones at that. We joke in our family that teaching runs in our blood, and it's an honor to be able to carry on her legacy.            For most of the years I was growing up, she lived in New York, in the small, small town of Hornell. My dad would take us on weekend trips to visit during the summers. In fact my first time driving on the highway with my learner's permit was on the way up to visit them one summer, and I remember proudly announcing that when we walked into the house. We would always start off our visits with a trip to the ONLY restaurant in town (Pizza Hut) and then stop by the ONLY grocery store in town (Wegman's) for ice cream to take home,...

My Journey to Self-Confidence

This is a picture of me almost exactly three years ago: And this is a picture of me now: Now, you might be thinking this is one of those stories that you see in Weight Watchers ads on T.V. endorsing a diet. I promise it's not. This journey was about so much more than a number on a scale. It was about working towards being able to recognize my divine nature as a daughter of God. I'll start at the beginning. When I started my freshman year at BYU, my self-confidence was at an all time low. I would try on about five outfits every morning, look in the mirror, and then immediately change. My low self-esteem was reflected in the way I talked to people, the way I dressed, and just the overall way that I carried myself. I compared myself to everyone else around me and was constantly tearing myself down. My lack of self-esteem seemed so obvious, yet it seemed like no one truly understood how I felt. I knew I needed to make some changes, but I just didn't know how. Af...

Never, Ever, Ever, Give Up

I remember when I was 8 years old, I joined our neighborhood pool's swim team. To say that I was an AWFUL swimmer from the beginning of my ill-fated swimming career was an understatement. For starters, my dive into the pool was basically a glorified jump with my arms over my head. I remember we would get ribbons the Monday after a meet for each event that we had placed in. If you didn't place in any of your events, you got this yellow ribbon that said "Good Swim" on it. I had a nice collection of those "Good Swim" ribbons by the end of that season, but it didn't curb my enthusiasm in the slightest. I loved swimming and even though I was the slowest one in my age group and my three younger sisters could each swim circles around me, I went to every practice, gave it my all, and even started swimming year round.           No matter how hard I practiced and trained, I never became a great swimmer. The older I got, the more...
