My Life Recently!

The past couple weeks of school have been super stressful. Last week I had a million tests. Okay three, but it felt like a million. First was a Book of Mormon test. I was honestly shocked at how hard it was and convinced myself that I failed. Yesterday I was looking at my grades on Blackboard and discovered that I got a B on the test and have an A in the class! I did a little celebratory dance in my dorm. It was beautiful. Then I had tests in Biology and Sociology too. It was probably the most fun I've ever had. I already despise the Testing Center. You walk into that seemingly endless room full of desks and you can just feel the tension. It's awful. This week was my week of papers. Three to be exact. That was super fun too. WOO. Next Monday my midterms start! The fun never stops! However, in the midst of all the stress of school I've still managed to have some fun!

First things first, IT SNOWED! IN OCTOBER! It didn't hit the ground, it just snowed in the mountains and rained down here. The mountains look SO gorgeous! I just went across the street to mail a letter and the mountains were covered in fog and it's SO PRETTY. It's just so strange that I wore my winter coat to class yesterday... Never thought I'd be whippin' that out in the very beginning of October... Then apparently tomorrow it's supposed to be 70 again! Oh Utah. I can't wait for the real first snow of the season though! I doubt I'll have to wait long... :)

Monday we had our Oakton Stake Reunion at the Brick Oven! It was so much fun and the pizza was SO GOOD. Definitely one of my new favorite Provo restaurants, along with Cafe Rio!

After a stressful couple of weeks, I was in great need of a fun Friday night and I totally got it! After I went to dinner with some friends, Jenn wanted to skype with me. Of course it's impossible to skype with one family member without everyone else joining in. It was only two minutes before Abby came downstairs, followed soon after by my parents. Amy didn't want to talk to me apparently, because it took her a solid five minutes to come downstairs. I soon learned that she was only late because she was making popcorn for her dinner. All too typical. Talking to my family always makes me so happy! I love them so much. I love hearing about their lives and telling them about mine. Then, I went to see the BYU Homecoming Spectacular that featured a Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell with my friends Ashley and Kaylee. It was absolutely...SPECTACULAR! The Men's Choir, Philharmonic Orchestra, Folk Dance Team, and Young Ambassadors also performed! Brian Stokes Mitchell was incredible and he's not half bad looking. :)

When we got back to the dorms, Kaylee and I decided we wanted to watch a movie. So, we went down to her floor (she lives in the room right below me, it's awesome) and got a little group together! After having a spontaneous dance party to "Friday," which obviously led to me recounting the story about how she was supposedly performing a concert at Fair Oaks Mall back in May which never actually happened, and belting out some Abba (Dana would be proud), Alyssa, Kaylee, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and I decided to watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off, aka the best movie EVER! Such a fun night!

This morning, my friend Ashley and I had planned to go to the homecoming parade, but I turned off my alarm by accident after it went off this morning. I meant to snooze it but I hit the wrong button. I woke up two hours later and frantically texted Ashley only to find that she had done exactly the same thing. I've spent most of the day getting my homework done and all that jazz. Tonight, me and some friends are walking to Cafe Rio for dinner and then going to the game! WOO! I love weekends, I love BYU, I love my friends, I just love life!

Until We Meet Again

On Friday, my Grandma Freeman passed away. She was almost 90 years old and lived a long, full life. She was kind, loving, a hard worker, and fiercely loyal. She taught elementary school, and I've always loved the fact that both of my grandmas were teachers, and good ones at that. We joke in our family that teaching runs in our blood, and it's an honor to be able to carry on her legacy.            For most of the years I was growing up, she lived in New York, in the small, small town of Hornell. My dad would take us on weekend trips to visit during the summers. In fact my first time driving on the highway with my learner's permit was on the way up to visit them one summer, and I remember proudly announcing that when we walked into the house. We would always start off our visits with a trip to the ONLY restaurant in town (Pizza Hut) and then stop by the ONLY grocery store in town (Wegman's) for ice cream to take home,...

My Journey to Self-Confidence

This is a picture of me almost exactly three years ago: And this is a picture of me now: Now, you might be thinking this is one of those stories that you see in Weight Watchers ads on T.V. endorsing a diet. I promise it's not. This journey was about so much more than a number on a scale. It was about working towards being able to recognize my divine nature as a daughter of God. I'll start at the beginning. When I started my freshman year at BYU, my self-confidence was at an all time low. I would try on about five outfits every morning, look in the mirror, and then immediately change. My low self-esteem was reflected in the way I talked to people, the way I dressed, and just the overall way that I carried myself. I compared myself to everyone else around me and was constantly tearing myself down. My lack of self-esteem seemed so obvious, yet it seemed like no one truly understood how I felt. I knew I needed to make some changes, but I just didn't know how. Af...

Never, Ever, Ever, Give Up

I remember when I was 8 years old, I joined our neighborhood pool's swim team. To say that I was an AWFUL swimmer from the beginning of my ill-fated swimming career was an understatement. For starters, my dive into the pool was basically a glorified jump with my arms over my head. I remember we would get ribbons the Monday after a meet for each event that we had placed in. If you didn't place in any of your events, you got this yellow ribbon that said "Good Swim" on it. I had a nice collection of those "Good Swim" ribbons by the end of that season, but it didn't curb my enthusiasm in the slightest. I loved swimming and even though I was the slowest one in my age group and my three younger sisters could each swim circles around me, I went to every practice, gave it my all, and even started swimming year round.           No matter how hard I practiced and trained, I never became a great swimmer. The older I got, the more...
