BYU!

It's still so hard to believe I'm in COLLEGE! I absolutely love BYU! My mom and I flew into Utah on Tuesday. We met up with my grandma when we arrived at the SLC airport. We then went to Deseret Book and looked around for awhile. There was so much stuff there! Then we went to Temple Square and walked around! After that, we met up with Colleen for lunch. Then my mom and I walked around some more and got a really neat tour of the Conference Center! We got to go up on the roof and got a really great view of Temple Square! Then we went to Kathy's house where I took a two hour nap, to help get over what I dramaticized to be a horrid case of jet lag. Somehow I've managed to adjust to the time difference. It's a miracle really. Anyways, we went to dinner with the Utah family then I went back to Kathy's and totally crashed. I was exhausted!

Wednesday morning I moved into my dorm! I'll post pictures later, I'm kinda too lazy right now. I got to meet my awesome roommate Kristen along with a few of the really awesome girls on my hall! That night we had a carnival slash dance and it was so much fun!

Thursday was our first day of NSO, everything's an acronym here at BYU. Seriously, EVERYTHING. It's hilarious! We had a convocation where we got to here from our school president and the president of BYU. After that we ate lunch and then went on a tour of the campus. I forget everything about the tour, so I may get a little lost tomorrow. I know the general area where my classes are, so I'm sure I'll figure it out. I plan to be that dorky freshman walking around campus with a map. Live and learn right? Then that night the whole freshman class took a picture sitting in the shape of a Y! It took awhile, but it was worth it! Then we got to see the Cougarettes and cheerleaders perform at a pep rally! There were fireworks at the end and it was pretty awesome!

Friday we basically just had more tours! It was absolutely exhausting, not gonna lie. This campus is GINORMOUS. Then Friday night we had a bunch of activities and stuff we could go to! At the end of the night we watched Tangled on a big screen at Helaman Field! I'd never seen it before, and all of my friends told me I'd been very deprived! After I saw it, I realized they were very right! It was adorable!

Yesterday was a pretty chill day. I had my preliminary choir audition in the morning. I made it through that, and now am auditioning for the Women's Choir director tomorrow! I. am. so. scared. Then I went to lunch and the bookstore with some girls from the whole. I picked up textbooks and some school supplies...PARTAY. Not so much really. Lunch was fun, but not the school supplies part. Then I met up with Mom, Kathy, and Grandma for ice cream at the Creamery! Then I ate dinner with some girls from the hall! We then had an end of NSO dance and got to see Divine Comedy perform! They were hilarious and made fun of all of the Mormon stereotypes! It was great!

Today was my first Sunday in the 107th Ward and I loved it! Our bishopric and Relief Society Advisor were all so so nice! Then I ate lunch with some people from the ward! The Cannon Center doesn't open until 11 and church was at 9 so we were all starving! We have a ward BBQ tomorrow night and I'm really excited! Then we had a hall meeting! After that, I had a meeting with the bishopric, they just wanted to get to know us no callings yet! I'm kind of excited to find out what mine will be though! Then I hung out with some of the girls on the hall for awhile. We made a bucket list of things we want to do before the end of the semester! Then I had to say good-bye to my mom, which was sad! I'll miss her a lot, but we still talk all the time! Then I went to dinner with the hall girls! We've been just chillin and talking in the hallway tonight! Yay bonding! Classes start tomorrow morning and I'm so excited and nervous! Yay college!

Until We Meet Again

On Friday, my Grandma Freeman passed away. She was almost 90 years old and lived a long, full life. She was kind, loving, a hard worker, and fiercely loyal. She taught elementary school, and I've always loved the fact that both of my grandmas were teachers, and good ones at that. We joke in our family that teaching runs in our blood, and it's an honor to be able to carry on her legacy.            For most of the years I was growing up, she lived in New York, in the small, small town of Hornell. My dad would take us on weekend trips to visit during the summers. In fact my first time driving on the highway with my learner's permit was on the way up to visit them one summer, and I remember proudly announcing that when we walked into the house. We would always start off our visits with a trip to the ONLY restaurant in town (Pizza Hut) and then stop by the ONLY grocery store in town (Wegman's) for ice cream to take home,...

My Journey to Self-Confidence

This is a picture of me almost exactly three years ago: And this is a picture of me now: Now, you might be thinking this is one of those stories that you see in Weight Watchers ads on T.V. endorsing a diet. I promise it's not. This journey was about so much more than a number on a scale. It was about working towards being able to recognize my divine nature as a daughter of God. I'll start at the beginning. When I started my freshman year at BYU, my self-confidence was at an all time low. I would try on about five outfits every morning, look in the mirror, and then immediately change. My low self-esteem was reflected in the way I talked to people, the way I dressed, and just the overall way that I carried myself. I compared myself to everyone else around me and was constantly tearing myself down. My lack of self-esteem seemed so obvious, yet it seemed like no one truly understood how I felt. I knew I needed to make some changes, but I just didn't know how. Af...

Never, Ever, Ever, Give Up

I remember when I was 8 years old, I joined our neighborhood pool's swim team. To say that I was an AWFUL swimmer from the beginning of my ill-fated swimming career was an understatement. For starters, my dive into the pool was basically a glorified jump with my arms over my head. I remember we would get ribbons the Monday after a meet for each event that we had placed in. If you didn't place in any of your events, you got this yellow ribbon that said "Good Swim" on it. I had a nice collection of those "Good Swim" ribbons by the end of that season, but it didn't curb my enthusiasm in the slightest. I loved swimming and even though I was the slowest one in my age group and my three younger sisters could each swim circles around me, I went to every practice, gave it my all, and even started swimming year round.           No matter how hard I practiced and trained, I never became a great swimmer. The older I got, the more...
