HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENN!

I can't believe that my baby sister is 14 and starting high school!! Here are 14 things I love about my Jenn!

1. She will just say and do the most random things that are SO FUNNY. I literally can't get through a conversation with this girl without laughing hysterically at least once. We talk a lot, so needless to say she keeps my life interesting!

2. She has such a great sense of style, something that I on the other hand was not blessed with. She helps me find cute outfits and will never hesitate to give me some constructive fashion criticism. If I had a dime for every time she's given me her judgment face followed by the classic "WHAT are you WEARING?!" I would have a lot of dimes...

3. She is a wonderful singer! I really don't think she realizes how good she is! I love that she's a little budding soprano, because the soprano section's totally where it's at! I'm not the least bit biased!

4. When Jenn is passionate about something she WORKS at it! She won't give up until the job is done! Whether it's tackling a song, perfecting an audition, or "beautifying" her room with 500 pictures of Justin Bieber, she works hard and won't give up!

5. She gives the best hugs. We also love to cuddle. We're always bed buddies when we go on family vacations.

6. We bring out each other's weird sides. I don't know what it is, but we do the weirdest things when we're together. Some of my personal favorites include: Googling how to annoy our sisters and using techniques such as: mooing every time they say our names, following them around the house, and trying to swim through the carpet. We've also: tied each other up, skyped each other from different parts of the house, made videos for people, and the list could just keep going and going...

7. She takes abuse well. Poor Jennifer always seems to be the one everyone taunts! Whether it's my friends (in particular Miss Sydney Gaver), her friends, little kid her family even, and so on, they all seem to find Jenn as an easy target. I don't know what it is about her but she takes it with a grain of salt. No worries Jenn, it's all out of love... most of the time.

Here she's being abused by McKenna Buhler. LOVE IT.

8. She is so so cute with little kids! They all just love her! It's the sweetest thing! I know she's going to make a great mom some day!

9. She is so beautiful! She is just gorgeous and has the prettiest smile!
10. She's just so much fun to be with! Like, you can't be with Jenn and not have fun! She's always smiling (except for when she's in a bad mood, but ya know, it happens to the best of us), and ALWAYS makes me laugh!

11. We love all of the same T.V. shows, except for the weird ones on Disney Channel that she watches, but anyways we have all sorts of marathons and it's so fun! She even got me to watch half of Camp Rock once!

12. She's an absolutely amazing friend! Jenn and I are very different people, but we get along so well! She's truly one of my best friends! She's always there for me when I need to talk, and she's just so great!

13. She has come to every single one of my performances. She has literally never missed a single one! I'm sure they can get pretty boring and I just love that she's always there for me! I can't wait to see her performances whenever I'm home next year!!

14. She's the best sister I could have ever wanted! I love you SO much Jenn and I hope you have an absolutely amazing birthday!

Life Changes and New Adventures

I thought that I had the next couple of years of my life all figured out. I am a prime example of a chronic over-thinker, and the queen of the pro/con list. I had carefully thought out every recent decision I had made. I was settled at the school where I had been working, I had a good apartment and ward, and I had just been accepted to a 2 year long Master's of Education program, which would fulfill one of my long term goals. Yet something still felt off. Despite the fact that I thought I had a good direction in my life, I felt confused and unsettled. It felt like I was trapped inside a box. I would walk in one direction, hit the wall of the box only to turn in another direction and hit another wall.          The problem was, I just could not figure out what it was that wasn't right. I started taking the long way driving home from work each day and praying about my concerns. It took a couple of weeks of this before seemingly o...

Shipps on a Ship Part 1

It truly feels like just yesterday my grandparents gathered our family in the living room of our rented beach house and told us that they were taking us on a Disney Cruise. In reality, it was a year and a half ago and at the time it seemed like November 2014 would never come. It still almost felt like a dream even as we boarded our plane to Orlando last Saturday after MUCH airport turmoil, i.e. Michael forgetting his carry on at security, Jonathan getting a bloody nose, and me almost losing my debit card. Against all odds, the Shipp cousins made it to Orlando in one piece. I always get teary-eyed when I see my family after a few months away, and this time was no exception! Just as we were getting settled into our hotel room, we found out that our toilet was broken, so we had to move rooms! Once we were finally settled, Uncle Dave was kind enough to take as many cousins as could pile into his van for a McDonald's run. We spent Sunday in Downtown Disney, visiti...

Until We Meet Again

On Friday, my Grandma Freeman passed away. She was almost 90 years old and lived a long, full life. She was kind, loving, a hard worker, and fiercely loyal. She taught elementary school, and I've always loved the fact that both of my grandmas were teachers, and good ones at that. We joke in our family that teaching runs in our blood, and it's an honor to be able to carry on her legacy.            For most of the years I was growing up, she lived in New York, in the small, small town of Hornell. My dad would take us on weekend trips to visit during the summers. In fact my first time driving on the highway with my learner's permit was on the way up to visit them one summer, and I remember proudly announcing that when we walked into the house. We would always start off our visits with a trip to the ONLY restaurant in town (Pizza Hut) and then stop by the ONLY grocery store in town (Wegman's) for ice cream to take home,...
